Noragami Aragoto

Okay, this post isn’t as much as a music post, but I just really wanted to talk about Noragami Aragoto.

First off, the opening and ending of the second season of Noragami is amazing! I was hooked to both and could not bring myself to skip it. Ever since Noragami began airing from season one until now, they have never disappointed me in their music tracks. Not once! (excuse me for being a fangirl).

Second of all, the Bishamon arc of this season is simply captivating. From character development, music, and the animation. The moments of humor to the moments where you feel like crying where simply a beautiful feeling. Of course, I won’t spoil the anime for those who want to watch it. However, if you feel the release of each episode is too slow, go and read the manga! It’s very interesting.

Now, for my input of this anime. I think it is an amazing anime. At first, I saw a trailer/teaser for it on YouTube while I was watching another anime, being the otaku I am. Being curious, I found this anime and have been hooked ever since. I remember telling my friend about this anime and even he is hooked on it, too. I was shocked to hear he was watching the second season as well. I believe the character development is very interesting and the battle scenes are captivating. As all anime lovers know, there has to be some kind of ship within the anime. My ship, or favorite couple, in this anime is the very canonized couple of Yatori, Yato and Hiyori. These two are implied to be the main couple of the series and I believe they will become a couple soon. Before I manage to spoil, I will end this here.

This is my little ramble and outburst about Noragami and Noragami Aragoto. I hope you will get hooked to the series just as I had and enjoy it as much as I did. Have fun, my buttercups!

P.S: Currently, Noragami Aragoto has 6 episodes released.

だんだん早くなる – 40mP ft. 初音ミク

Honestly, I put the title in Japanese because copying and pasting the title is much easier than typing it out.

I usually have a link to translations, but there’s no need for that today because the translations are included in the video.

Alright, now that’s out of the way. Time to talk about the song.

The English name for the song is “Getting Faster and Faster” I thought this would be a cute song to share and it actually has a pretty motivating message. It’s a quite obvious message as well, so not a lot of explaining is needed today. In a brief summary, the song is about life in general. The road can get bumpy or it can be a joy ride. Whatever it is we may experience, we get busier, sadder, happier, and ultimately we come to see life in its fullest. So listen to the song and see how it can lift up your mood/spirits and motivate you throughout the day. Have a great day!

P.S: Take it with a baguette and butter. Put some butter on the baguette and enjoy it as you listen to this song. Goodbye for now, my buttercups!

“On those days willed with joy, in the best of moods

And on those days where rough patches leave me feeling down

That going along at my own pace is just fine,

That’s what I’m thinking”

VIXX – Eternity

— ” A cruel night is endlessly coming to me
I close my eyes again, taking me back to that dream

Into an eternal dream that I won’t ever wake from

VIXX‘s song, “Eternity” has a rather deep meaning to it that at the same time is bluntly obvious (translations can be found here).

The music video begins as a typical romance short movie. However, the lyrics conflict the visual quite a bit. As the couple is seen being loving to each other, the lyrics are, “Look. Love is a nightmare.”  Further into the song, the lyrics seem to talk about the male’s fear of losing the girl and that he appreciates her being there with him. Near the end of the 2nd chorus, we see that the girl fades away and that she has “never been there in the first place”. One of the band members is seen dancing by himself as a girl watches him with a sad expression (however, he was previously seen dancing with the girl in the beginning of the song).

The song is, in summary, about a man’s hallucination of a love he desperately wanted. In my personal opinion, it is a sad song to an extent as we see the band members struggling to accept reality and refusing to “wake up from their sweet nightmare.”

Mama (Your Majesty) – EXO

— ” As human beings, we can only be hurt.

Mama by EXO (translations can be found hereis tied to our Short Story unit because it discusses the issue of humanity not learning to accept and love each other due to advancement in technology. This specifically ties to our themes of love and acceptance.

The line “There is no life, feelings and warmth over there, there is only trashy language” could mean that we have begun to hate on each other and that we have become senseless to other’s emotions, losing our “warmth” and closing off to others.

“Laugh, cry all together, holding hands meeting that feeling; each resemble and connect to each other” could mean that we have to learn to share our emotions with each other in order to bond with each other. Therefore we must accept and love each other, which is supported by, “I’m grateful to be allowed to live in this blessed days; every day creating new ties”

Sharing love is emphasized when the group sings, “sharing good love with everyone rather than shattered hearts” which, again, ties to our theme of love.

Not only is this song catchy, but brings out a positive message to its listeners. “Careless, careless. Shoot anonymous, anonymous. Heartless, mindless. No one who care about me?” (if you are careless enough to shoot another with words, you have become heartless and mindless, so who will care for you?).

Tokyo Summer Session – HoneyWorks

— “ The fireworks I’d only watched from afar are now right in front of me. “

For my first song related post, I chose to introduce one of my favorite producers/arrangers of Japanese music, HoneyWorks. I have always loved the team’s art styles and ways to express emotions through beautiful songs. However, the song I chose today was more or less geared towards love struck teenage girls. HoneyWorks is well-known for their “romance” songs, and I wouldn’t be surprised because one of their famous songs, “A Solution For Jealousy” was a romance song that had hooked me to HoneyWorks.

But that is not the song that I had wanted to introduce. The song I wanted to introduce was their most recent release, “Tokyo Summer Session” (translations can be found here). In summary, the song is about 3 different couples. Both having their own “back story”. The song would make more sense if you had known about each couple’s back story, but it is fine without it. The setting is during a summer festival within Tokyo (like the title says). The couples each have their own date and it is shown that one couple confesses to each other near the end of the song. The song makes sense just watching it, as it is not one of those confusing songs you have to re-watch over and over to get the story.

The part that hooked me to the song was the beautiful art style and animation, not to mention the catchy guitar and piano. I absolutely love Yamako’s art style (it is shown at the end of the song at around 3:21 – the end of the song).

If you’d like to find out more about HoneyWorks, check out their official website here (though it may be hard due to it being in Japanese).

My blog is about music in other cultures. Music presents a sense of entertainment to most people in the world. We turn to music whether we are feeling depressed, angered, and even happy. However, here in the U.S, we tend to neglect music in other cultures. As for myself, I have been listening to Korean and Japanese music since I was in 5th grade. This blog may mostly be about the Korean and Japanese music I have heard throughout the years. However, I will sprinkle a bit of English music in this blog as well, as I said that music in other cultures should not be neglected. This stands for American music as well. I hope you will enjoy these pieces of music as much as I did as I discovered the deeper meanings behind the songs.
